Your Questions, Answered
A business relationship is built on trust and transparency. Here is what you need to know before signing up.
Is your service Direct Routing or Operator Connect?
The service advertised is based on Direct Routing. Callroute can also offer Operator Connect. Please get in touch with us for more details.
What setup costs are there?
In order to use Teams Phone you need to ensure that you have the required licences from Microsoft. If you have purchased Microsoft 365 E5 with Microsoft Teams Enterprise (or legacy E5), then you have all the required licences you need. All other Microsoft Teams licenced users will need the Teams Phone Standard add-on licence. You can purchase these directly from Microsoft or your CSP.
There may be other one time charges due should you wish to port your numbers to us or connect your carrier to our platform instead of using our calling plans. These costs are variable depending on your circumstances, so please contact us to discuss them.
How do I bring my own carrier?
We have a library of over 30 different connection profiles to other carriers around the world. It may be that your carrier is one of them. Check out the list of carriers that are currently supported.
If your carrier is not on the list, we can add them with your support. Our standard carrier connectivity for BYOC is over the top (internet). If your carrier supports SIP connectivity over the internet, TLS (preferred), UDP, or SIP registration we are able to connect to them.
Should your carrier not support internet based connectivity and require private MPLS, then this will need to be established first. In this case there may be additional charges applied to your plan to support this.
When connecting a new carrier we require a demo / test trunk so that we can validate the connection before enabling you. You will need to provide this. Once testing and validation have completed you’ll be able to connect your production SIP trunks to Callroute and begin using the service.
What countries do you support calling in?
We support the UK for full PSTN replacement services. This means local, non-geographic, freephone, shared cost, premium rate, local service, and emergency services calling. We support international 2-way calling in over 76 different countries. If you require an international direct dial number, the cost of this number and associated call charges will apply.
We support bring your own carrier globally, so if you require local PSTN replacement services in your home country, you can connect your local carrier to us instead.
How does UC Connect work?
UC Connect is our multi-use SIP trunk gateway that enables you to register your SIP phones, PBXs like Cisco Call Manager, and other phone devices to Callroute. In the self-service portal you’ll be able to create a SIP trunk on the platform that you can use to connect your downstream device to.
We support TLS, UDP, and SIP registration trunks. Connectivity is provided over the internet, so your device must be accessible from the internet either directly if its an SBC, or through a NAT enabled firewall.
The cost for UC connect is charged on a per-channel basis. A channel is classified as an active phone call. For SIP phones the max channel count is one. For PBX platforms, the minimum channel amount is five.
What devices can I connect with UC Connect?
You can connect any standard SIP device to UC Connect that doesn’t have proprietary firmware installed. Some PBX vendors like Cisco install firmware on their devices that lock it into their platform. If you want to reuse these types of phones, you’ll need to contact the vendor to enquire if they have alternative firmware that unlocks the device to be used with other systems. If such firmware is available there will likely be a cost associated to it.
When connected to UC Connect these devices will operate like a simple landline with dial in and out capabilities. There are no PBX features like multi-party calls, voicemail, or directory search capabilities. If you need this capability, we recommend you upgrade to a certified Teams phone instead.
What's included with your Teams setup and migration?
We will configure your auto attendants, call queues, and user phone settings such as number assignment and call forwarding options. We will manage the porting of your numbers from your old carrier to us and ensure Teams Phone is working how you need it.
All configuration is performed remotely. We don’t provide onsite services to install and configure physical devices as standard. If you need this capability, please speak to your account manager.
Can I use your self-service portal with my existing Teams Phone service?
Yes you can. You can use our number inventory and user management features with you existing Teams Phone service, we sell that as a separate product called Orto.
